Can’t believe this hasn’t been uploaded already Lyrics: Workin’ on a laptop, close to the end Of a job I’ve been doin’ since half past ten I don’t believe that it’s frozen again The system has gone down-o, down-o, down-o I don’t believe that it’s frozen again, the system has gone down-o So I took it down to the help desk guy I said, Make it better, or I’m gonna cry He said, I’m sorry, your computer has died The data can no longer be found-o, found-o, found-o He said, I’m sorry, your computer has died, the data can no longer be found-o To the roof with the laptop I did go Over to the edge and I gave it a throw And when it arrived seven stories below It really made a mighty fine sound-o, sound-o, sound-o When it arrived seven stories below, it really made a mighty fine sound-o Well, that didn’t do enough to ease my pain So I went down to Dulles and I got on a plane Sayin’, This is all Billy Gates’s fault I’m gonna be trackin’ him down-o, down-o, down-o This is all Billy Gates’s fault, I’m gonna be trackin’ him down-o Touched down in Seattle and got off the plane Hit Starbucks to get out of the rain Paid all o’ my dough for a thimble o’ joe Full o’ foam and the cinnamon brown-o, brown-o, brown-o All o’ my dough for a thimble o’ joe full o’ foam and the cinnamon brown-o When the Gates found out about my plan He packed up a bag, turned tail and ran Megalo-man took it out on the lam And hid way underground-o, ground-o, ground-o Megalo-man took it out on the lam and hid way

ncix.com This thing is built like a tank. Honestly I think many users are starting to get tired of buying a notebook purely based on the spec. The huge number of people buying Apple notebooks really demonstrates this trend. OSX ain’t that special, so why are they buying them? I’m not saying the X460DX is comparable to a Macbook in terms of build quality, but the cost is competitive, and the build quality is excellent for a sub 00 price point notebook.

  • What is a good new notebook to buy for creating digital art and watching movies?

Posted on December 14th, 2011 No comments

Question by Jon Hildebrandt: What is a good new notebook to buy for creating digital art and watching movies?
My current notebook is no longer doing what I need, so it’s time for a replacement. I’ll be creating art (in programs like Photoshop), writing in Word, watching movies, etc. There are two musts: accurate colors shown (as accurate as I can get, I mean) and a widescreen display. Interested in another HD screen. Thank you! I just need some help finding the notebook I’m looking for!

I’m guessing you’ll be doing light Photoshopping. Anything really heavy on a laptop isn’t smart- they really aren’t meant for photo/video editing.Regarding the screen, I think any laptop you get now will have fairly true colors. LCDs (especially TFT panels, like in laptops) have come really far, and their quality is very good, even on low-end computers. So if in your laptop hunt, you don’t see specific mention of a spectacular screen, don’t rule that computer out of your possibilities. Most likely it will be fine anyway. Now, some technical specifications I’d recommend for you:Processor: Dual-coreRAM: at least 3GBHard Drive: at least 250GB, preferably 320GBScreen Size: Not less than 15″DVD Drive: speed isn’t gonna differ terribly, as long as it’s included, it’ll workVideo: If you can, get a laptop with dedicated graphics memory (it may say 512MB graphics, or 256MB is fine too. If it doesn’t mention any graphics card, it means it’s an integrated stock card, which may slow down your image editing. So, I’ve looked at some models for you:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834200028http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117990And, the more expensive (but best) option:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127003I am fond of the Sony VAIO series. They’re seriously good-looking laptops, and they perform really well.I think any brand should be fine though.Regards,Lucien Briscoe

  • Rescentris Releases Version 4.5 of CERF, the ?Bio-IT Award? Winning Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) Software System for Biology and General R&D

Rescentris Releases Version 4.5 of CERF, the “Bio-IT Award” Winning Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) Software System for Biology and General R&D

    CERF 4.5 Award Winning ELN

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) November 17, 2011

Rescentris, Inc. today announced the release of Version 4.5 of its leading Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) software product CERF to its global customer base. CERF is a scalable, cross-platform ELN used by organizations to replace paper-based lab recordkeeping and enable controlled access and sharing of research knowledge.

ELNs improve research productivity and quality by helping scientists find information and protocols needed to plan the right experiments, then capture and organize all of their data. User adoption can be a major challenge to the success of enterprise lab informatics solutions. CERF 4.5 was developed to be the easiest full-featured ELN to deploy and use.

CERF is the only enterprise ELN providing native Windows and Mac OSX clients, because users often need the full power and flexibility of an integrated desktop environment. CERF 4.5 offers fewer clicks for common and batch functions and a streamlined user interface to make it easier to organize and navigate through multiple projects and experiments. Real-time collaboration and communication was extended with new messaging technologies, so users can more easily work together – even on the same page.

CERF 4.5 provides new mobility option ‘Email-To-CERF’ to post notes, images and data securely from any device, plus an updated web browser ELN client. Data visualization was extended to create and edit even more scientific content inline in the notebook, including a free-hand sketching tool, audio entries and annotations, tables, mindmaps, and screenshots, as well as greater Microsoft Office integration. Workflows were simplified for multiple authors on experiments and notebook pages, and publishing to PDF or to Microsoft Word format was extended. New social tagging, user editable taxonomies, and metadata features were added to annotate and quickly find information using CERF’s rich search tools.

Version 4.5 updated the CERF Server (PC/Mac) for MS SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle databases. Distributed Data Management extends management of data and images of any size securely outside the relational database to maintain system performance. The new SDIMS module supports structured data and standardized forms, including experiments, samples, and task management (as semantic data in RDF format). CERF 4.5 also features enhancements for patent protection, regulatory compliance and monitoring.

The extensions and updates were all deployed within CERF’s modular and flexible semantic infrastructure that enables plug-and-play upgrades and the ability to control what features are available. See http://rescentris.com/cerf-software/cerf-4-5-updates/ for more information.

“This release was driven by our users in diverse disciplines at over 100 customer sites”, said Jeff Spitzner, Rescentris’ President. “They chose CERF because it has the feature position users want and is easy to deploy, keep, and upgrade. Now, as ELNs are becoming mainstream applications, it is vital that they are easy to use, match the way scientists work today, and remain locked and responsive even as data volumes increase. CERF is a critical drive to help our customers make effective and effective use of their knowledge in say to compete successfully in the global research and development community.“
