Question by Michael P: What is the differences between a netbook and a laptop?
I’m thinking about saving up for a laptop or a netbook but I don’t know which is better. I would be planning on playing games like runescape, minecraft, and World of Warcraft on there, without making the computer completely tardily. Also if you could tell me which is the best laptop and which is the best netbook on the market.

    Answer by sapslaj
If you are planning on gaming, then a laptop is definitely the way to go. Netbooks are like mini versions of laptops. They are primarily for lightweight web surfing. They aren’t meant for games, or HD video streaming.

Question by AnswerMe: What is the difference between a netbook and a laptop?
Will a netbook play films and and songs or can this only be done on a laptop? What are the main things that can’t be done on a netbook that can be done on a laptop?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Stanley
Well a netbook is a small notebook computer designed to be ultra-portable, lightweight, power friendly, and also very affordable. It is used primarily for surfing the Internet thus the name, interNETBOOKBut a netbook can also play films(HD Movies), songs and even games. So the major difference(s) between a netbook and a laptop, is that most netbooks are:(1). They are generally smaller in size(any laptop with a screen less than 13 inches should be a netbook)(2). They don’t have any Disk Drive (either Blu-ray, DVD, or CD)(3). The RAM is usually about 1GB(4). The Hard Drive storage space is mostly between 80GB to 160GB…

  • Buying a Netbook? 5 Tips Before You Buy

Posted on November 26th, 2010 No comments
    Peter Strudwick asked:

Netbooks are the new, lightweight mini-laptops that go anywhere with you. A good netbook will do most of your basic computing – internet stuff like email, web browsing and downloading, run businessword applications and play music and video – without breaking your back or your bank balance. They’re cheap and they’re fun! Most netbooks come with Windows ready-installed and there are Linux-based mini-notebooks with their simple interface that’s very popular.

Although there’s a wide range of netbooks on the market, not all mini-notebooks are created equal. The people who design them have to juggle the problems of weight, size and performance and their compromises can cause problems for you, the netbook buyer.

Here are five factors you need to know when shopping for a netbook:

1: Will it do the job?

Most netbooks feature a snappy 1.6GHz Intel chip and although they give good, brisk performance in the jobs they’re designed for, remember that they’re not heavy-duty data crunchers. If you want to do some serious computing, you may need a laptop that’s got more grunt.

2: Is the keyboard big enough?

The keyboard is the main interface with your netbook and many early-model mini-laptops had mini keyboards. People who could easily touch-type on a full-size keyboard found themselves struggling on a netbook. In addition, some manufacturers save space by moving keys around or making them smaller. Test the keyboard before buying so you know you’ll be able to type comfortably.

    3: Is the track-pad usable?

In the struggle to make netbooks ultra-portable the track-pad and its buttons often get the chop, too. Unless you want to carry a mouse, the trackpad is the other main interface with your computer. Check that the netbook’s trackpad is big enough to be usable and that the buttons are positioned well.

4: Is the display big enough?

Early-model netbooks also had smaller displays, and while they were more portable, 7 inch screens are not noted for their visibility. Currently, 8.9 inch screens seem to be about the smallest display for good readability, while the industry standard, the 10 inch screen, is a good compromise in terms of size and ease of viewing. Check that the laptop you’re considering won’t cause you eyestrain.

5: Does it have the features you need?

Most quality netbooks have the features we expect in a notebook computer: a good-sized hard disk, webcam, speakers and microphone, card reader, bluetooth and a wifi card. The only feature that netbooks lack is an optical drive – the DVD/CD drive has been sacrificed to keep size and weight to a minimum. When choosing your netbook, make sure it has all the features you want.

So there are five important things to consider when buying your netbook.

Although these mini-notebooks are cheaper than regular laptops, do your research before buying. The major manufacturers all have web sites with detailed specifications. Check them out at your local computer store and visit online netbook forums. If you buy online, don’t buy on impulse and buy from a seller with a good rep.

  • 5 Simple Best Reasons to Buy a Netbook

Posted on November 14th, 2010 No comments
    Tito King asked:

Ever since the Taiwanese company released the netbook computer, Eeepc, the popularity of netbooks has exploded. There are perhaps a dozen different companies selling netbooks to the consumer market. Bill Gates recently stated that the netbook is a revolutionary and innovative device that captures the social networking success of the internet at this current time and moment. With Bill Gates quotes, you can’t argue with the success of the netbook. Although they are less powerful than a laptop, it still has many useful features.

Here are five reasons you should buy a netbook today instead of an iPad:

You can lie down on your bed and comfortable type on it. It is small enough to fit around your lap and most of the computers do not produce excessive heat that could burn your skin if you place on your lap for too long. It is cheap. You can buy a good netbook for around $200. You don’t need to fork out thousands of dollars in buying a new computer. You can use the same programs on the desktop as you would with the netbook, as long you use the same operating system. Therefore, you don’t need to relearn how to use the program. It is small and lightweight. You can easily store it in your carry on luggage if you travel overseas. You don’t have to worry if you can’t fit on all your clothes in your luggage as the computer doesn’t take too much space. It can be used as a portable entertainment device. You can comfortably watch all your favorite movies on your computer or listen to your mp3 collection.

  • What is a Netbook and is it Right For You?

Posted on October 14th, 2010 No comments
    Christine Pinkston asked:

A netbook is a light weight wireless computer that is designed for those that are on the go and still want to be connected to the Internet.

It is used for surfing the web, chatting, and shopping online.

  • Why a Netbook is Still More Useful Than the iPad

Posted on October 4th, 2010 No comments
    Lance Esondi asked:

The iPad was said to become the netbook killer. At it’s low price and the portability it offers with huge battery life, it almost seems that the speculation of a netbook killer was right. But this falls apart when you start looking at the details. The iPad falls short of actually killing off the netbook market.

Netbooks can multitask. The iPad is limited to one application at a time just like the iPhone. On a netbook you can be writing in a word processor, listening to music, browsing the web, using spreadsheets, and many other functions all at the same time. It’s easy to work with and use like you would a laptop. The iPad does not have this functionality making it difficult to really argue it’s better than a netbook.

Netbooks have full browsers. Without Flash support, it’s hard to argue that the iPad is a full browser experience. If one wants to get into a hotel room and catch up on some shows on Hulu or other network sites, it’s possible. On the iPad you will have to purchase the show through iTunes as it’s not possible to watch video in the browser.

Netbooks have expansion ports like USB. If you need more memory, the ability to install additional applications, or additional hardware, the standard USB port will take care of this allowing you to use thousands of additional components. The iPad can’t without USB ports. It will be much easier to store media, print, and almost everything else with a netbook.

Netbooks, even the high end versions, are still cheaper than the lowest priced iPad. It’s hard to justify paying 30% more for something that does at least 30% less.

  • iPad Review – Looking at the New Way We Communicate

Posted on August 27th, 2010 No comments
    Johnny Q asked:

I have to agree some companies have definitely changed the way we look at technology and the internet. Some of these companies have change the way tech savvy people such as myself look at a simple email while on the run. As soon as I received my iTouch I was hooked. We as the technology generation have continued to surpass the way we communicate with each other. My company runs of my iTouch and anything I complete it’s in my hands. I love the way technology and information just pours to my hands with a simple touch of a screen.

Now I was just amazed at all of the features that the new iPad has to offer. I just happen to watch the demo video and the first thing I notice was the slick design of it and the cool appearance that it just stands out. The iPad can use up to 140,000 apps available in the app store. One of the cool benefits is that it’s like a crossover between a laptop and the iTouch. It really is going to come in handy when I need to get some valuable information from the office and I can just jump on my iTouch and get anything available in the internet. This is business at its best; sure it’s fast, quick and in a hurry. Now If I can make the switch to a slick design and have all the easy to use technology it will definitely help. Like I said I’m one of those savvy tech people that like fast business in the speed of thought. If it gets things done quickly, then I like it.

One of the things that I notice was the price, starting at $500.00 dollars it seems to be competing against some of the top competitors. I asked my self why should I buy an iPad when for the same price I Can get a notebook? They are the same category of technology for sale. The iPad need to stand up to the name and the name of its makers, to demonstrate the agility of the way we do business or communicate with each other. One of the coolest features that I notice was the slick design in the keyboard. I thought the keyboard was out of this world. Now I hope that it’s like the regular keyboards that you can just act like it’s a regular keyboard. One of the problems that some technology companies have is that the iTouch and the iPhone do not have enough grunts to run a proper browser.

Some of the time when I’m browsing for me it just seems to browse the internet better with my laptop and not the iTouch, every time this happens it irritates me. Hopefully, for me if I am going to spend any kind of money in a gadget I want something that I’m not going to have trouble with.

But let’s not give the iPad a bad name. It now comes with three stores the iTunes Store, the App store and now the iBook store. Here is where you carry your own library around and get some cool books. This was a big plus for the iPad. I just wish that the technology gurus are going to deliver on this iPad because I will have high expectation of it. I will be looking forward to my iPad.
