Question by chives: What’s the difference between the ipad and the ipod touch?
Other than the larger size in the ipad, the reading feature, the keyboard docking and camera connecting feature, the 3G, and the microphone, are there any other benefits of the ipad over the ipod touch. Also, how much is the monthly fee for the 3G network on the ipad?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Max
Nope, although the bookstore app has potential for online textbooks. And for 3g… i’d have to guess around 10-20 bucks a month?

Brand new iPad 16GB or Refurbished iPad 32GB. They are both $ 499.99. I do need the extra space because I have lots of movies and TV shows. Am i best off to have less space and a new iPad or more space and a refurbished iPad?

ELN Technologies Leads iPad Electronic Lab Notebook Apps With CERF Platform

CERF iPad app re-invents the laboratory notebook

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) April 17, 2012

ELN Technologies (formerly Rescentris) announced today that it will unveil an all-new version of the CERF electronic laboratory notebook iPad App at the 10th Bio-IT World Conference & Expo 2012 in Boston next week. CERF for iPad allows research scientists to document experiments on the go, in addition to adding files, images, bookmarks, and more. CERF for iPad has been selected as a Finalist for the Bio-IT Best in Show Award. CERF ELN has been awarded multiple recognitions from Bio-IT World in the past, and representatives are excited to use this special anniversary event to debut the newest vision in mobile science laboratory research.

The 10th Anniversary of Bio-IT World takes place from April 22nd – 26th, at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. Attendees are invited to visit the CERF booth, #318 and demo the app, in addition to signing up for a chance to win a free Apple iPad.

According to Amber Miller, Microbiologist at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), “The app is powerful, intuitive, and fast. I love the CERF iPad interface.” The CERF electronic lab notebook iPad app has been fully re-designed, and sports the full functionality required for portable data recording.

“CERF is purpose-designed to replace the paper notebooks with something more suitable to a modern research environment,” said Dr. Wolfgang Rumpf, Director of Product, ELN Technologies.

The CERF iPad App allows users to connect to any CERF Server and work with their notebooks using a rich, intuitive interface. “Our initial feedback has been very positive,” said ELN Technologies CEO Peter Herz. “Users – even those with no previous exposure to CERF – said they found it easy to use. Many scientists have told us that they’d much rather do their work on a small portable device than carry around a laptop or be chained to a desk. The CERF iPad App enables them to do so.”

With the CERF iPad App, users can directly create notebook entries from text, images, and any documents they have in their Cloud storage systems such as DropBox. “Users can even dictate their notebook entries using the new iPad’s Speech to Text feature,” continued Mr. Herz. “It just works.” And users agree.

“I just came back from Las Cruces for a National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels & Bio-Products (NAABB) CERF meeting”, said Jeremy Tate, CERF Admin for NAABB and Help Desk Manager at the Danforth Plant Science Center. “I was showing off the iPad CERF app and got some very positive feedback from a variety of people. We think it’s great. Simple, intuitive, and very fast.”

Simple and intuitive design is key to render scientists with the tools they need to get their work done. According to Dr. Rumpf, “There is too much scrapbooking and reinvention in science – cutting and pasting from one piece of paper to another; repeating experimenting because it’s faster than searching through all of the old paper notebooks – or worse, repeating experiments because you unexpectedly overwrote the original data, or simply don’t know that one of your colleagues has already done that experiment. Science advances when we build on existing work rather than reinvent it. With CERF, scientists can finally do that.”

Question by : How to update your iPad without deleting anything?
I just updated my iPad and some apps and a few other things were deleted. My email account settings disappeared as well. How to update your iPad without deleting anything?

    Best answer:

    Answer by David
Connect your iPad to your computer’s iTunes and copy any purchases to your computer’s iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad ‘device’ and select ‘back up’), and copy off any important documents, file, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) – the update process should backup and restore the content but it’s best to be safe and try and minimise any data/content loss if the update doesn’t go smoothly.

Question by canaanboy: How can register an IPad without signing up with itunes? I will be passing the Ipad around to employees?
I have an itunes account but want to use it without Itunes if possible? This is a company IPAd and will be used by multiple people depending on project.

    Answer by Jumpo
You need to setup your iPad with itunes on your computer to start it. However, you don’t need to sync any music videos or any other personal data. You can leave it all empty, (unless if you wanted to transfer some apps) I am unsure if you need to put in your itunes account when you set it up. However, if you do and you don’t want this simply go into settings-store-sign out on your ipad. And your apple id will be removed from your ipad :]

NPD: iPad Owners are Older and More Wealthy than Other Tablet Owners

Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) February 17, 2012

iPad owners tend to be older and have more money, but as tablets have become more mainstream and more widely distributed, those high-end demographics are shifting. According to leading market research company, The NPD Group’s new study, Tablet Adoption and Insights Report, more than 40 percent of iPad owners have a household income of $ 100 thousand or more compared to 26 percent of non-iPad owners. More recent tablet owners make less money and are younger than the early adopters, with buyers at the end of 2011 being 50 percent more likely to have an income under $ 45 thousand, and 33 percent more likely to be under 34 years of age.

“As the demographic of the tablet owner continues to change the tablet market is beginning to take on a new role,” said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD. “We are seeing some of the tasks traditionally performed on devices, such as PCs, now being performed on the tablet. In fact, all five of the top activities shifted towards the tablet between early and late 2011.

Yet, regardless of usage trends, the vast majority of consumers are not rejecting other devices. Only 10 percent of tablet owners have decided they wear’t need a PC notebook that they were once considering. This same trend is also reflected among non-tablet owners, 26 percent of whom say they are likely to buy a notebook in the next year, while just 18 percent say they will purchase a tablet.

“Even as consumers increasingly use tablets for tasks that were once exclusively done on their PC, they continue to plan new PC purchases,” said Baker. “Usage is still evolving and most people, being inherently conservative in their device outlook, continue to hedge their bets on their device preference by planning to maintain an array of products to afford them maximum flexibility.”

    Methodology
An U.S. rep sample of more than 1,114 consumers completed the survey through NPD’s online panel in December 2011. A pre-identified sample of 3, 600 tablet owners were part of the survey.
